Vacuum drying ovens for battery cell production

Fast process, short heating time, optimal drying results

Weiss Technik vacuum drying technology is vital in the production of lithium-ion batteries. This process is essential for effectively drying electrodes, which significantly impacts the performance and lifespan of the batteries.

We specialize in designing customized vacuum dryers that can be seamlessly integrated into both production lines and research facilities. Our advanced vacuum dryers not only enhance efficiency but also optimize the drying process, so manufacturers can maintain rigorous quality standards in their lithium-ion battery production.

For battery manufacturing processes, where high product quality and precision are essential, vacuum drying is indispensable. The entire process must take place under controlled, ultra-dry environmental conditions. As the product moves between different production stages, vacuum dryers can be used as an airlock, maintaining low dew points and ensuring production remains uninterrupted.

Weiss Technik vacuum drying ovens ensure efficient drying and the highest levels of product protection, making them an integral facet of both research and manufacturing workflows.

What advantages does vacuum technology offer in drying processes?

Vacuum technology reduces air pressure, which in turn lowers the boiling point of liquid mixtures according to the vapor pressure-temperature curve. As a result, liquids evaporate at significantly lower temperatures, allowing them to be effectively removed from a receiving vessel. This means that sensitive products do not require as much heating in a vacuum to achieve the same drying performance. All of the trapped air and vapor in the product is eliminated, preventing any re-condensation after the drying process. This makes vacuum drying the ideal solution for removing moisture from sensitive materials gently, without leaving residues, and in a manner that is process-safe.

How is vacuum drying used in battery production?

Vacuum drying is the final step in electrode production. To ensure that batteries deliver the required performance and longevity, the coated coils must be dried thoroughly. The process effectively removes even the smallest residues of moisture and solvents. Vacuum dryers equipped with circulating air temperature control perform this task efficiently. After complete drying, the coils are transferred to cell assembly, where they undergo further processing under controlled drying room conditions (for example, with a dew point of -60°C).

How does vacuum drying optimize the production of lithium-ion batteries?

Currently, there are no established or standardized processes for vacuum drying in battery manufacturing. That’s why it’s exciting to be involved in research production and to help develop these standards. We work closely with our customers to create specific and process-optimized vacuum drying solutions that enhance efficiency and safety in battery production. These solutions are integrated into the production line as required. Since flammable solvents are used in electrode production, process safety is particularly important. To address this, we use our in-depth experience in thermal engineering.
